I Can’t But God Can!

Published on by 8 Comments

There she is … my little, ceramic Scottie dog, Sassy, affectionately named after a beloved Scottie we had years ago. But she’s sitting on a ledge in the nativity and with a great view. I just noticed her today … one of my littles obviously relocated her to be with Jesus.

My guess is my 2-year old grandbaby, Lonnie girl, put her there. She’s so fascinated with the baby Jesus. I can’t tell you how many times he has been rocked to sleep. In fact, he was accidentally dropped once and I had to superglue his toes back to his feet.

I’ve been seeking God almost desperately these last couple of months for direction. I’m wrestling with a serious health issue that requires surgery. I’m meeting with the surgeon on Monday for scheduling. I know what I’m called to do but honestly – I’ve not had what it took physically or emotionally to show up here for some time.

My October was full of deadlines and back to back weekend speaking events – I was plum worn out in every way. But I realized from feeling poorly and the tiredness that I’ve been putting so much pressure on the calling, that I allowed the enemy to make me feel like I can’t do this ministry thing. I would have a good day and then two bad days that wiped me out, putting me in bed … it’s like riding a roller coaster.

I know my healing is coming in the name of Jesus. But I feel like I’ve let so many of you down as well as the Lord.

But this little Scottie placed in the nativity gave me a new perspective. It made me laugh at first but then I realized, the weight of writing, teaching, speaking, and sharing the gospel isn’t on me. It’s all on HIM … I just have to lead people to the nativity to get a view of Jesus – and let God do the rest.

That may sound simplistically silly to you, but God reminded me again for like the tenth time – I can’t but He can … in all things! The pressure is off in the name of Jesus!

So here’s to 2022 … with great expectations of God giving people a view of Jesus that resonates deep in their souls.

Don’t let the enemy use anything against you!

Happy New Year! May you see Jesus all around you in unexpected ways!

I love you all!

Thank You, Lord, for the opportunity to write for You. You are so good to me.
I’m interrupting my summer SM fast to share what G I’m interrupting my summer SM fast to share what GOD has done. I serve a GOD Who never ceases to amaze me. He once again has lavished the Porter family with unending mercy and grace. After years of surgeries, fertility drugs and treatments, my DIL Kayla, and youngest son, Spencer, adopted four precious children that we couldn’t possibly love more. Then GOD surprises them with this precious gift - a baby girl due in December 2025!

Never give up on what your heart desires because GOD sees you and HE never forgets! Oh how I love my LORD.

“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:3-5

The six Hallel psalms (113-118) have five themes: The six Hallel psalms (113-118) have five themes: deliverance from Egypt, the dividing of the Red Sea, the giving of the Torah (Law), the resurrection from the dead, and the Messiah.

Hallel comes from the word hallelujah and means “praise.” The Hallel psalms were to be a fervent reminder of God’s everlasting mercy, power and deliverance.

Rabbinical tradition and Hebrew history suggest Jesus sang the Hallel hymns as a young boy. Scholars also believe that Jesus and His disciples sang these hymns in the ascent to the Temple at Passover, as well as at the last supper on the night Judas betrayed Him. (Matthew 26:30)

Can you imagine what was on His mind as He sang these sacred hymns just hours before His death? Jesus was singing about His sacrifice, death and resurrection, knowing He would pay the ultimate cost for rescuing us from eternal death. What a sweet Savior we have. There is no one more worthy of praise.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown m Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7

mer·cy
/ˈmərsē/ noun
Compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

If you’ve never been in a situation where you need mercy…one day you will. I remember a time when great compassion and mercy was extended to me - I’ve never forgotten it.

When you have experienced real mercy, it’s easier to give mercy. It’s vital that we remember God not giving us what we deserve is mercy. I think about that often and thank Him.

I don’t know who this is for tonight, but it’s been on my mind all day and I felt led told to share it before I go to bed. So choose mercy…because one day you will need it yourself. Blessed are the merciful!

It’s been seven years tonight since we lost Paula It’s been seven years tonight since we lost Paula and Ronnie. Our household is heavy this evening. But I refuse to let the enemy get the upper hand. I have Jesus and that means I stand on God’s Promises to endure sad days.

From Abraham to Jesus, the fulfillments of God’s covenants and promises kept reminds me that Jesus is all I will ever need. And because He died for my sin, He will not leave anything undone in my life, in Gailen’s, or our family’s lives. We don’t turn from God when life hurts, we run to Him. He alone is the comfort we need for all our days. Give your yes to Jesus!

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His Glory!” 2 Corinthians 1:20
Last night, during worship at church, the Lord swe Last night, during worship at church, the Lord sweetly reminded me that He is always with me. We were singing about the goodness and faithfulness of God; I closed my eyes, and the Lord started showing me moments in my past when He was by my side. It was like a slide show, and I knew each moment. I saw a younger me praying for my husband’s salvation and deliverance from alcohol; Jesus was standing in front of me.

He showed me when I was praying for my adult children, times when they were prodigals – He was with me. I saw myself sitting on the floor of my closet begging God for help when we lost Paula and Ronnie – He was beside me. He showed me the day Matthew took me to the hospital when I thought I was dying of COVID-19; I saw Him standing against the wall by Matthew in that ER room. I was shown when He walked around Gailen’s hospital room during our COVID battle.

I saw Him beside me during lonely and broken times. One by one, the scenes flashed before me, and I was so grateful that He was there. Life has a way of stacking up trials that can make us tired if we’re not on guard. It seems I’ve been tired since January of 2017, when we lost our loved ones. But He has never left my side.

He has been faithful when I couldn’t lift my head to pray. He’s been there for every disappointment, every oppression, and every heartache. He sees me. He loves me, and He will never leave or forsake me.

This experience made me immediately choose to remember the good moments, and I saw Him there, too. I’m grateful this morning that He reminded me of His constant presence. I encourage you to let Him remind you today. If you have made Him the Lord of your life, He will show you how He’s never left your side.

But if you have never trusted Jesus in faith and asked Him to lead and guide your life, all you have to do is tell Him that you believe He came to die for you, ask Him to forgive you for your sins and start doing life with Him.

You are on His radar – you’ve always been. He wants you to know Him, seek Him, and live for Him. It’s the most important decision you’ll ever make, and it comes with unlimited grace and mercy for all your days. He sees you, and He’s with you!

We encounter so many adversities, hardships, oppre We encounter so many adversities, hardships, oppressions, disappointments, and troubles; we don’t make it out of this fallen world without trials. But I pray this truth tucked away in Psalm 31:7 will comfort you. Knowing that He understands our sufferings validates what we feel, whether or not anyone acknowledges them.

He has intimate, limitless knowledge of how we ache, hurt, and despair. So, take heart, my friend; He sees and cares about all your hurts – draw near to Him!

“When we are so bewildered as not to know our own state, he knows us altogether. He has known us and will know us: O for grace to know more of him! ‘Man, know thyself,’ is a good philosophic precept, but ‘Man, thou art known of God,’ is a superlative consolation.” – Charles Spurgeon.

I’m reading Lysa TerKeurst’s newest book and it’s I’m reading Lysa TerKeurst’s newest book and it’s incredibly thought provoking, relatable and hopeful. It’s so very hard to trust when you’ve been hurt. But if we’re not careful, we can quietly quit on hope because it’s a risk.

This book is fast becoming my favorite Lysa T book - and I’ve read just about all of them! It’s amazing how hurts can rewire our brains to act and react in certain ways, but this message is revealing how to discern and interpret those emotions and feelings in ways that bring healing, hope, and glory to God!

You can preorder this book now and it will release on October 8, 2024! You won’t regret adding this book to your library!

It’s mind boggling to think that there has never been two sunsets or sunrises alike in all of time. Only GOD can perpetually create something new in nature on a daily basis. From the time we left our house to the moment we made it to the end of Townsend, the temperature dropped 9 degrees. It was a sublime 71 degrees as we circled the loop. Thank You, GOD, I adore this beautiful place called Cades Cove, it’s always soul rest for me!

If you’ve been holding back or playing small with If you’ve been holding back or playing small with your spiritual gifts, it’s time to get over that.

God recently reminded me, it’s not about me – and it’s not about you. Stop letting fear, rejection, life, and all those other satanic excuses keep you from fulfilling your call for your generation – all that matters is being obedient to God. Step up!

“As each one has received some spiritual gift, he should use it to serve others, like good managers of God’s many-sided grace — if someone speaks, let him speak God’s words; if someone serves, let him do so out of strength that God supplies; so that in everything God may be glorified through Yeshua the Messiah - to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:10-11 (CJB)

Apart from Jesus, we are all wicked (Ephesians 2:3 Apart from Jesus, we are all wicked (Ephesians 2:3). But we can receive Christ’s righteousness by grace through faith in Him! And when we do, He helps us live out His commands, including the charge to cling to God’s Word: “Keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching” (Proverbs 6:20).
When we cherish God’s living and active Word, He will protect our lives as He leads, guards and speaks to us.
