I Can’t But God Can!

Published on January 1, 2022February 23, 2022 by melanieporter458 Comments

There she is … my little, ceramic Scottie dog, Sassy, affectionately named after a beloved Scottie we had years ago. But she’s sitting on a ledge in the nativity and with a great view. I just noticed her today … one of my littles obviously relocated her to be with Jesus.

My guess is my 2-year old grandbaby, Lonnie girl, put her there. She’s so fascinated with the baby Jesus. I can’t tell you how many times he has been rocked to sleep. In fact, he was accidentally dropped once and I had to superglue his toes back to his feet.

I’ve been seeking God almost desperately these last couple of months for direction. I’m wrestling with a serious health issue that requires surgery. I’m meeting with the surgeon on Monday for scheduling. I know what I’m called to do but honestly – I’ve not had what it took physically or emotionally to show up here for some time.

My October was full of deadlines and back to back weekend speaking events – I was plum worn out in every way. But I realized from feeling poorly and the tiredness that I’ve been putting so much pressure on the calling, that I allowed the enemy to make me feel like I can’t do this ministry thing. I would have a good day and then two bad days that wiped me out, putting me in bed … it’s like riding a roller coaster.

I know my healing is coming in the name of Jesus. But I feel like I’ve let so many of you down as well as the Lord.

But this little Scottie placed in the nativity gave me a new perspective. It made me laugh at first but then I realized, the weight of writing, teaching, speaking, and sharing the gospel isn’t on me. It’s all on HIM … I just have to lead people to the nativity to get a view of Jesus – and let God do the rest.

That may sound simplistically silly to you, but God reminded me again for like the tenth time – I can’t but He can … in all things! The pressure is off in the name of Jesus!

So here’s to 2022 … with great expectations of God giving people a view of Jesus that resonates deep in their souls.

Don’t let the enemy use anything against you!

Happy New Year! May you see Jesus all around you in unexpected ways!

I love you all!

Life is hard, and some days are unbearable. We liv Life is hard, and some days are unbearable. We live in a fallen world, and no one is immune from pain. We face hardships, oppression, heartache, grief, sickness, and more.

God didn't promise us that it would be all sunshine and roses. But He did promise peace.

We won't find peace in money, degrees, relationships, status, or even boundaries we pose.

We only find the true peace that passes all understanding when we give our hearts to Jesus and walk daily with Him.

I've done it both ways in my 58 years, and I couldn't imagine not having God through the heartache I've experienced. I would have lost my mind without Him.

He sustains, heals, calms, and carries me through weaknesses and hardships, and yes, He brings me peace. There is no happiness in this life without Him.

He is the air I breathe, the joy in my sadness, the hope rising in my spirit, and the true love of my life.

I promise you won't regret doing life with Jesus. But you will regret doing life without Him.

Do you know Him?

"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, God, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 26:3

"I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world." John 16:33

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Jesus' invitation to "come to Him" overruled the P Jesus' invitation to "come to Him" overruled the Pharisee's legalism.

When He said, "take My yoke upon you," He invited all to find rest through surrender and obedience via salvation.

Coming to Him and taking His yoke leads us to the peace of God and peace with God. (Romans 5:1, Philippians 4:6-8)

In Biblical times, farmers would yoke a younger ox with an older one to teach the animal submission.

A yoke can be oppressive if the one holding the reins is cruel or abusive, but Jesus says taking His yoke is not a burden. (1 John 5:3) We find rest and spiritual restoration that breeds hope when we take His yoke and learn to trust Him with our earthly burdens.

Your life may feel heavy today. But finding rest in Jesus is easy when we remember He's beside us and He's bearing the load when we submit to Him.

If you're tired of the world's frustrations and disappointments, shift the heavy burdens to Jesus' side of the yoke. Ask Him to deepen your trust so that you may find peace in His care.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)

Your day may have gone differently than planned. Y Your day may have gone differently than planned. You were determined to start fresh.

But even though you were prayed up, focused, or determined, your efforts fell flat when they collided with the obstacles.

That’s okay. The enemy knows when God is calling us out of our pits.

But don’t be discouraged. Lift your eyes to the Creator; He understands your frustrations.

But He doesn’t want you to quit because He doesn’t want you to stay where you are. Get back up and try again. Don’t give in to defeat even when you feel weak.

The lavish love of our Savior’s sacrifice begs us to grasp onto His endless mercy.

We can’t do anything without our Father’s help, and if He’s calling us to leave old habits behind, He will help us walk away.

We must start again … today, tomorrow, and every day after, don’t stop … begin again.

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)

Lisa writes so vulnerable and tackles hard relational topics that good Christian girls can be tempted to gloss over if we’re not careful. I promise her words will make you say “me too.” “The Hard Good” is my favorite to date but I’m sure “God Knows” will probably prove to be a new fav too! @brooke.ramsey0810 you can borrow this one too when I’m finished! 😂 You can order this book from Amazon and numerous over retailers.

Lisa also has a great podcast called JOE - @jesusovereverythingpodcast ❤️

Everyday we have a chance to start over and get ba Everyday we have a chance to start over and get back into the race!

Staying in the race is being faithful and not giving up because we mess up!

Remember - Satan knows faithfulness always wins - but he wants to make the journey hard so we won't finish! #StayInTheRace

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” #hebrews12v1thru3

Sharing over on the First 5 App today about the be Sharing over on the First 5 App today about the beautiful story of Ruth and Boaz.

I wonder how big Ruth's faith in God was before she met Boaz. Before journeying to Bethlehem with her mother-in-law, Ruth was unaware she had been living in a spiritual famine, yet she felt compelled to follow Naomi's faith in Naomi's homeland.

At some point, I'm sure she started "connecting the dots" that it was God who was blessing her, and no doubt her curiosity was aroused. Then the moment Boaz showed Ruth kindness in his fields, God rescued both her and Naomi from desolation and brought them into His divine fullness in a new way, much like the meal Boaz shared with Ruth left her satisfied with some left over (Ruth 2:14).

The story of Ruth and Boaz evolves into a beautiful picture of redemption. But in Ruth 2, Boaz had no idea of the goodness coming his way; he acted from motives of empathy and obedience to God's Word.
